Sustainable or "green" building is now fortunately becoming a mainstream building concept. This is necessary because:
- a huge amount of limited resources go in to constructing and operating buildings
- the modification of these resources generates unwanted by-products such as green house gases
- Living with modern building products is now known to impact on our health.
Sustainable building practices hopefully start us down the road to producing buildings where we do not impact detrimentally on our environment. We should aim to use less resources, use renewable resources, lower the embodied energy, lower the energy and water consumed and deliver healthier buildings.
